Cookie Policy.
On your first visit, 1722 sets no analytics cookies. A small consent banner asks whether you are willing to allow analytics; nothing beyond strictly necessary local storage is set unless and until you click Accept. This is a "consent denied by default" setup under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) — analytics only runs after an affirmative choice, and you can withdraw that choice at any time.
What this site stores, and why
The table below lists everything the site can store in your browser. Only the first two rows are ever set automatically; the Google Analytics rows are set only if you click Accept.
Storage
Cookies and local storage in use
Name, purpose, type and duration for each item this site can store.
| 1722-theme | Remembers whether you last chose light or dark display mode. Set on your first visit, before any consent choice — it is strictly necessary/functional, holds no personal data, and is never shared. localStorage, no expiry (persists until you clear site data). |
|---|---|
| 1722-consent | Records your analytics consent choice (accepted or declined) so the banner does not reopen on every visit. localStorage, no expiry (persists until you clear site data). |
| _ga | Set by Google Analytics 4, only if you click Accept. Distinguishes unique visitors to measure site usage. Cookie, expires after 13 months. |
| _ga_* | Set by Google Analytics 4, only if you click Accept. Holds session state for the same measurement purpose. Cookie, expires after 13 months. |
Consent
How the consent mechanism works
On arrival, analytics storage is set to denied by default (Google Consent Mode v2). If you click Accept in the banner, the Google Analytics 4 script loads and the _ga / _ga_* cookies described above are set to measure page views and general usage. If you click Decline, or take no action, the script never loads and no analytics cookies are set.
Google Analytics data, where you have consented to it, is processed under Google's own privacy and cookie policies, which govern how Google itself handles that data.
Your choice
Changing your choice
You can change your mind at any time. The Cookie settings link in the site footer reopens the consent banner, where you can accept or decline again. Declining stops any further analytics cookies from being set; clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes any that were already stored, including _ga and _ga_*.
For how any information collected is handled more broadly, see the Privacy Policy.
